2020 was the worse year many people will never forget. We recently celebrated 1 year of living with Covid-19 and many lives have been lost millions and thousands of people did not see the year 2021. Here we look at South African famous celebrities who passed away in 2020.

Joseph Shabalala

Vinolia Mashego 

She died on 3 April at the age of 57. Former Jam Alley presenter Vinolia, popularly known as V-Mash, has died, her family confirmed yesterday. Allen Booi 

He died on 20 July at the age of 77. Allen Booi was a SA actor best known for his role as Mike in the SABC1 drama series Tsha Tsha, from 2003-2006. In 2007 he played the role of Godfrey Xaba in the controversial SABC1 mini-series After Nine.

Elize Cawood The famed South African actress died on 18 July. She was 68 years old. Elize Cawood was a South African actress. Her most famous TV role is probably that of Pop in Verspeelde lente (1984) and on the silver screen opposite Marius Weyers and Peter Sepuma as the rich Afrikaner woman in Taxi to Soweto.

Mary Twala

The actress was 81 when she died on 4 July. Mary Kuksie Twala (14 September 1939 – 4 July 2020) was a South African actress. In 2011, she was nominated for Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role.

Zindzi Mandela

South Africa’s ambassador to Denmark and the youngest daughter of Nelson Mandela and Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, died on 13 July, at age 59. Zindziswa “Zindzi” Mandela also known as Zindzi Mandela-Hlongwane, was a South African diplomat and poet, and the daughter of anti-apartheid activists and politicians Nelson Mandela and Winnie Madikizela-Mandela

The Skeem Saam actor who died in April was 53. Renowned for his much-loved character Big Boy on SABC1 soapie Skeem Saam, Maja die after a short illness. He is survived by his wife Mamopudi as well as three children – Mahlatse, 27, Molagare, 25, and Mapula, 23. Maja had two grandchildren Sheila and Malesela – named after him

Karabo Mokhubela

Skeem Saam actor Karabo Mokhubela has passed away at the age of 40. The actor, who played the role of Jazzy T on the popular soapie, reportedly died on Sunday night, 26 July 2020. The news was confirmed by Skeem Skaam’s official page on Twitter
